From £770pp based on two people sharing
Famously rich in both history and architecture, the Loire Valley is perhaps one of the most iconic of French regions. With the sheer abundance of glittering rivers, rural towns and grand historic chateaux, not to mention the outstanding selection of food and drink, the Loire Valley has become one of France's top holiday destinations for people in the know.
The flat terrain makes for some extremely enjoyable cycling. The start and end point is the charming town of Blois, along the Loire River, from which you'll glide along village roads, past glorious vineyards and through ancient forests that spill out onto grand estates. Arguably the most graceful of all is the classic Chateau de Chenonceaux, whose arches stand proudly over the gentle flowing of the River Cher. You'll also get to visit the likes of the 440-room Chateau de Chambord, a grandiose accommodation once owned by King Francois I, who considered it a 'small hunting lodge'.
