Lake Constance is perhaps one of the best cycling destinations in Europe. With miles of flat cycling trails sticking close to the water's edge, there's also a whole host of traditional medieval towns on offer, plus some stunning views, plus you'll get to cycle across the borders of Germany, Austria and Switzerland (although no one knows quite where these borders are!) Most of the cyclists visit in the summer (July and August), creating a real collective spirit that'll help keep you pedalling from village to village.

Accommodation:

Hotel-Garni Brugger on Lindau Island - Only a stone's throw from the centre of the Old Town, this fantastically restored hotel offers hugely comfortable rooms, breakfast room, conservatory and even a spa area where you can rest your weary legs after a long day of cycling.

Hotel Adler in Stein am Rhein - A family-run affair located in the main square of this traditional medieval town. The rooms are light and airy, and the restaurant offers up some fantastic, locally-sourced dishes.

Stuben in Meersburg - This wonderful abode feels like a home away from home, with modern bedrooms hiding behind the timber-framed facade. As you'll be staying here on a B&B basis, you'll be able to spend your evenings exploring the many restaurants dotted around the Old Town.
