Overview of Cycle Provence and the Luberon
Province has long since been considered on of France's most picturesque regions, and quite rightly so. Stretching from the Rhone to the infamous Alps, this is a region of contrasts, of imposing mountain ranges and expansive fields of lavender. This fantastic 8-day self-guided cycle of the region is ideal for anyone looking for a slower paced cycling holiday where you can travel at your own pace, stopping wherever you like for some local food or simply to sit and admire the landscape.
During the trip you'll get to follow the River Durance, which flows from the Alps into the Rhone River, as well as passing over the Luberon mountain range. There's also the chance to take on the ultimate challenge and try an ascent of Mont Ventoux, which has become known as one of the toughest sections of the Tour du France. You'll also pass through the market towns of Merindol and Lauris, encounter the Roman ruins at Nesque Gorges and visit the Observatoire de Haute Provence just outside Sault. It may be beautiful, but the trip is also relatively challenging so you'll have to make sure that you have a good level of fitness before heading out.
