Option 1: via Paris

Sample itinerary: Take the 0840 from Toulouse Matabiau to arrive at Paris Gare d'Austerlitz at 14.50 then cross Paris to Gare cdu Nord to catch the 1713 Eurostar, which arrive in London St Pancras at a very civilised 1829.

Transfer

Cross the centre of Paris by metro from Gare Montparnasse to Gare du Nord. Take the Metro line M4 to Gare du Nord (which is signposted 'direction Porte de Clignancourt'). It's 14 stops from Gare Montparnasse to Gare de Nord and takes 25-35 minutes, but we recommend you leave at least 50 minutes for the entire transfer time and don't forget the 30-minute check-in for Eurostar.

From St Pancras, there are mainline rail connections to Derby, Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield, as well as First Capital Connect trains on the cross-London Thameslink route which continues north as far as Bedford or south to Gatwick Airport and Brighton.

Across the street is Kings Cross station, which has rail connections to the north of England and Scotland, and it's a 15-minute walk (in the opposite direction, heading west) to Euston Station for connections to the West Midlands, the West Coast (including Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester) and Glasgow (including the Scotrail sleeper service).

Option 2: via Lille

Sample itinerary: It's an early start if you want to come back via Lille - catch the 0529 from Toulouse Matabiau which arrives at Lille Europe at 1306 in time to check-in for the 1406 Eurostar, which arrives at London St Pancras at 14.31.
