Strattons is an independent family run hotel secluded in the historic Market town of Swaffham, offering guests ‘luxury without sacrifice to the environment’.

Owners Vanessa and Les Scott met at Great Yarmouth Art College and began restoring old properties before purchasing Strattons in 1990. In two decades Strattons has developed from a run down, private, listed building into a quality award winning boutique hotel with a reputation for strong environmental ethics. It now boasts 14 sumptuous bedrooms, half of which are suites, a café deli open all day, every day, a 40 cover restaurant that continually wins awards for wine, food and its local sourcing ethos, serving organic and locally sourced produce in an innovative and exciting modern English style. Art, design, luxury and comfort feature strongly throughout the hotel. Individual, sumptuous, eclectic, hip and funky bedrooms; cool contemporary style with originality.

It has employed an Environmental Management System since it first opened its doors and was the first hotel in the UK to win the prestigious Queen’s Award for ‘Outstanding Environmental Performance’ in 2000. It worked as one of thirteen project members in 1997 with the University of Hertfordshire and Envirowise on a pioneering project; ‘Waste minimisation in the food and drink industry in East Anglia’. Strattons has always sang the benefits of using local produce appreciating that financially investing in an area recognised within Europe as suffering from economic and social decline was a way it could help revive the local rural economy badly affected by the decline in agriculture. Professor Anne Smith from the University of Hertfordshire described the Scott’s as, “Trailblazers, ahead of their time”.

Swaffham is situated in the Brecks, a unique and beautiful landscape stretching across Suffolk and Norfolk, ideal to enjoy healthy walking, jogging, cycling and horse riding on the ancient track ways and peaceful forest trails. The nationally recognised bird reserves within the tranquil and breathtaking North Norfolk coastline is only a short drive away, and Norwich a diverse and sophisticated city with Norman Castle, 12th century cathedral and fabulous shopping.

"The surprising thing about Strattons is that it's not your usual socks-and-sandals green bolthole. It's a 10-room country hotel in a Grade II-listed Queen Anne villa with canopied four-poster beds, open fires, stripped wooden floorboards and free-standing baths."
