A skippered yacht charter offers a different way to experience some of the finest scenery in the Scottish Highlands. Starting and finishing from various easily accessible harbours, the west coast offers some of the best sailing in Scotland, with many fascinating islands to visit such as Jura, Mull, Iona and the Treshnish Isles in the south, and the Inner and Outer Hebrides further north and west. On this private charter, however, you will have no fixed itinerary and can choose your route, based on the skipper’s suggestions and the prevailing winds.
Sailing holidays are very much dependant on the prevailing winds, so your journey would have no fixed itinerary and it would be open for you and your skipper to decide on the chosen route. Although the itineraries are not fixed, areas we would plan to visit may include:
Jura – one of the wildest islands in Scotland, with the fearsome Corryvreckan Whirlpool at its northern tip
The Isle of Mull – the largest of the Inner Hebrides, famed for its eagles, whales, wonderful coastal scenery and the colourful port of Tobermory.
Iona – this small island is located off the western tip of Mull and is a very special place to visit with its famous abbey and historical significance
Staffa – most famous for the stunning Fingal’s Cave, Staffa is also home to thousands of puffins which make the island their home in early summer.
The Treshnish Isles – a superb destination for wildlife lovers, these islands boast abundant bird and marine life, with some of the largest seabird colonies in Scotland.
Colonsay – a charming Hebridean island with many wonderful beaches.
The Small Isles – if time permits, we can venture further north to Rum, Eigg, Canna, Muck or even Loch Scavaig on Skye.
As this is a private sailing charter, it is up to you to decide how much time you want to spend sailing or onshore. Some groups will happily sail all day while others are content to simply sail between anchorages and spend much of their time on land exploring the islands.
We can suggest itineraries based around wildlife watching, walking, whisky distilleries - or simply the best sailing in Scotland! Whatever you do, we think this will be a sailing holiday of a lifetime.
