New train line to connect London and Oxford

Posted by Philippa Jacks at 04:01 on Friday 29 January 2010

Chiltern Railways has announced it will launch a new, faster train line between London Marylebone and Oxford.

All trains will call at Bicester Town, Water Eaton Parkway (a brand new station) and Oxford. Most will also call at High Wycombe, and some will stop at Islip.

High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire is a perfect gateway to the Chiltern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

From Oxford, there are easy connections into the Cotwolds, another AONB.

Journey times will be cut by more than 20% on average, down to around 66 minutes from London to Oxford, and there will be two London-Oxford trains per hour in both directions.

Chiltern Railways says it is the first new railway line connecting London to a major city in the UK since 1910. Construction of the new line and station starts next year and is expected to finish in 2013.
