Why we've chosen Higher Lank Farm, Cornwall, England

On our working farm we specialise in meeting the needs of parents and children under 10 alike. Whatever the weather, whatever your needs, there is always heaps to see and do both indoors and out. So much, that many of our guests report that their children sleep soundly all night and wake ready to play and help on the farm all over again, each morning of their stay! So why not grab your wellies, and let your children… help feed our animals, collect eggs for breakfast, bottle feed our orphan lambs, groom and ride our ponies, join our tractor and trailer adventure and play in our wonderful farm themed playgrounds. We welcome real nappy users and provide nappy buckets and a free nappy laundry service for guests.

Since 2004, in partnership with the Cornish Real Nappy Campaign, we have been able to offer guests who would like to try real nappies an opportunity to do so. Guests can borrow, free of charge, a selection of real nappies for the duration of their stay with us and we will give advice and help while you are with us, and even wash them free of charge!

Why is this a greener holiday?

To truly minimise the environmental impact, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport: the nearest station is Bodmin Parkway and the owners are happy to collect guests at the station with prior arrangement. Onsite the owners have taken a number of green measures to reduce the environmental impact of their tourism business. The roof is insulated with wool. The owners use refillable dispensers for toiletries to cut excess packaging. They also support local food suppliers to minimise food miles.

Since March 2013 all heating and hot water are provided by a new biomass boiler that will burn wood from the owner's woodlands.  This is used to heat the endless pool, where Lucy is now teaching and coaching swimmers. This is a particularly good way of training open water swimmers and triathletes as well as helping improve stroke techniques. Lucy has been teaching swimming for the last 30 years and has started doing lots of sessions with the guests this year and it has been such a cracking success, they have decided to develop this.

HIgher Lank Farm specialise in holidays for families with children under 10. All guests are offered to chance to join the welcome tractor and trailer ride to see the herd of beef bullocks on the farm. After this, a homemade Cornish high tea is provided for the delectation of all the family in the farmhouse. Lucy cooks this from scratch every Saturday using HIgher Lank sausage meat from the pigs, their own eggs and of course local clotted cream and jam.
