Canvaschic, Ardeche, France
One of the largest luxury yurt camps we've visited, it's in a forested setting overlooking the stunning Ardèche Gorge Nature Reserve. The yurts have king-size beds (with 2 camp beds for kids) and don't miss the Mediterranean food prepared daily.
Founded in 2003, Canvaschic @ Mille Etoiles is one of the first Yurt camps in France. Situated in the heart of the nature reserve of the Gorges de L'Ardeche. It is a camp, nomadic and adventurous in spirit that moves and grows with the seasons and the people that come to stay.
At the heart of our philosophy is a desire to provide a relaxing experience to all our visitors while ensuring everything we do is in keeping with the spirit of a nature reserve. Camping is, by its very nature, low-impact and here we believe that the beauty of the forest and the splendour of the river and its gorge are the stars of the show.
The encampment enjoys a magnificent position on top of the stunning Ardèche river gorge. The gorge, 300 meters deep at some points, twists and turns below and provides some of the most breathtaking and rugged scenery in the country. The camp is set in an oak forest, which provides much needed shade in the summer. Leafy paths lead to viewing points with stunning vistas across the gorge. Access to the river is by several dramatic footpaths, which descend steeply into the gorge. Once at the river there are countless swimming and sunbathing spots, perfect for whiling away your days.
Our accommodation is in yurts , handcrafted from oak and ash wood and covered in creamy natural canvas and the tents are thoughtfully dotted throughout the camp each yurt with its own deck and hammocks giving you the space and privacy rarely found on a traditional camping holiday.
Each Yurt is furnished with a king-size bed, and two camp beds for children. Linen is included and each tent is individually styled. Shared bathrooms are in the centre of the site and are fitted out for function, style and comfort. Locally produced biodegradeable (and great for the skin!!) Savon de Marseille is provided in dispensers in the bathrooms.
The original spirit of the place is that of a true outdoor experience and exchange. For this reason we are now offering dinner five nights a week in high season, included in the price of your stay . Healthy, locally sourced food is prepared daily. Mediterranean style vegetarian – plenty of (home-grown) salads, great bread, quiches, risottos, pasta, roasted veg, pulses and nuts – will be served four nights a week. Once a week it's BBQ night for those who need it – sausages, or marinated fish or chicken. Self catering facilities for the yurts are still available at the camp for lunches and nights we are not serving dinner.
In low season we offer a 3 night weekend package including canoeing, and see our website for other special offers, workshops and events, eg, Cookery course, Yoga, Music Workshops.
Bienvenue aux Mille Etoiles!
