There are hundreds of well preserved buildings dating back to the 16th and 17th century, when the city was the centre of the European silk trade. Modern life revolves around the many cafes on the vast Place Bellecour, one of the largest squares in Europe, but don’t forget to visit the Musée des Beaux Arts, the second largest and most important collection of Art in France after the Louvre.
