Details of Cinque Terre and the Italian Riviera by Train
Day 1-2 - Nice Travel on Eurostar to Paris, and on to Nice by TGV, where you'll check-in at the Mercure Nice Grimaldi, a contemporary hotel in a historic building, with a solarium and enviable central location on a pedestrian street close to the Promenade des Anglais.
Days 2-6 - Sestri Levante Travel by train along the French and Italian Riviera to Sestri Levante via Genova. Here you'll spend 4 nights at the Grand Hotel Dei Castelli, spectacularly set set in a castle surrounded by large gardens. The hotel houses the restaurant “Ai Castelli,” which offers Genovese cuisine with views across the Riviera, and also has a natural seawater swimming pool, and private rock terraces - perfect to enjoy the sun from during summer months. In a stunning setting at the end of the pennisula between the Bay of Silence and the Bay of the Fables, the hotel is a 20 minute walk from Sestri Levante station.
From Sestri Levante, you can take a trip to nearby Portofino, the luxurious and picturesque fishing village-resort loved by many celebrities, where you can lunch at one of the harbourside restaurants, or wander along the village's tiny streets to discover hidden gems including art galleries and jewellery shops. Sestri Levante is also close to the beautiful Cinque Terre, five beautiful towns perched on the cliffs above tiny bays along the dramatic Ligurian coast, all accessible by rail.
Days 6-7 - Zurich Travel through the Swiss and Italian Alps to Zurich, where you'll stay at the Hotel du Théâtre, a historic former theatre, close to the station in the centre of town. The hotel has 50 contemporary and individually designed and furnished bedrooms, a cinema, an audio book library and a relaxing lounge.
