Walking the Camino de Santiago, Spain
The ultimate walking holiday covering some 780km over 35 days as you join the pilgrimage from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela, passing through countless beautiful villages and natural spots.
£2185
Brace yourself for what has to be the longest walking holiday available on greentraveller! This colossal trip involves 5 week-long stages (that's 35 walking days in total) that will cover the entire 780km length of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela (translating as 'The Way of St James'). The pilgrimage starts out in St Jean Pied de Port and passes through countless tranquil villages and rural towns before reaching the beautiful Santiago de Compostela. Having existed for over a thousand years, the trail has been walked by over a million people. The symbol of the scallop has long since been associated with the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, and the route is well signposted with yellow and blue scallop symbols to help guide you.
Obviously, you're going to need a good level of fitness if you want to complete all five stages. One of the highlights comes in stage 4, where you'll leave the city of Leon and climb to O Cebreiro, ready to descent towards Triacastela at the start of stage 5. No doubt you'll feel a great sense of achievement with the Cathedral in sight, as you and your fellow pilgrims inch towards the finish line and receive the 'Compostela', a certificate awarded to all of those who have walked 100km or more of the trail.
