Cabins

A cabin implies certain traditional, rustic, rural qualities, a house build to stand up to the elements, but also a house with character. Cabins certainly can boast all of this, but at the same time staying in one doesn't need to be a basic, primal experience (though if you're looking for something more along these lines, perhaps the Mountain Bothies of Britain's wilderness areas are the thing for you).

In fact, you won't need to sacrifice any comforts on a cabin holiday these days - whether you want the more traditional experience of a wooden cabin in the snow (from the Alps to Scandinavia) or something a bit different - by the beach perhaps, or in England's rolling countryside, we feature plenty of welcoming, cosy, eco-friendly cabins (see below). Many of these (and more besides) featured on our Green Travel List of small hotels, on Catherine Mack's recommended eco-breaks in the UK - and there are even a few options on greentraveller founder Richard Hammond's list of sustainable travel options in the Mediterranean.
