Alison Thompson

I started freelancing in 2008 when I became a Mum. Since then I’ve worked for VisitBritain, VisitEngland, VisitWales, VisitScotland, Fáilte Ireland and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.

Previously I worked for the English National Park Authorities Association and the Environment Agency. Before that I worked in business with The Smart Company (now Corporate Citizenship) and was a Director of Studentforce for Sustainability. I earned my green stripes through an MSc in Responsible Tourism Management and a Masters in Sustainable Development. I’m now an alumnus of the International Centre for Responsible Tourism and fellow of Forum for the Future

Favourite holidays in Europe combine my love of languages with sunshine and culture. My best travel moments include taking the train to Bruges, listening to Fado music in Lisbon and salsa dancing in Madrid. In the UK, I love nothing better than horse riding on Islay beaches in Scotland or birding on Holkham Beach in Norfolk. Closer to home, Kew Gardens and Barnes Wetland Centre are regular bolt holes for family days out.
