Taxis from Train Stations - introducing traintaxi.co.uk
Booking a taxi ahead can help avoid having to hang around at remote train stationsThanks to the recent addition of train routes on googlemaps as well as the excellent door-to-door journey planning tool on transportdirect.info it's now so much easier to plan a low carbon journey across Britain.
However, one of the challenges of travelling by rail is the onward travel from the station - those 'final few miles' to your final destination.
Many stations have local bus services (see traveline.info), but if your final destination isn't serviced by the local bus network and it's too far to walk or cycle, you either have to rely on being picked up by friends or colleagues, or you have to order a taxi. And while it may be fairly easy to find a taxi outside a mainline train station, what if you find yourself looking for a taxi at remote or end-of-the-line stations, such as Penrhyndeudraeth and Haverfordwest?
That's where traintaxi.co.uk comes in - it's a wonderfully understated online resource that can help you find a cab from pretty much any train station, tram, metro & underground station in Britain.
How does it work?
Go to traintaxi.co.uk, use the search tool 'check for taxis at a station' find your desired station and the site will provide you with the contact details for any local taxi companies, as well as showing you whether the station itself has a taxi rank or cab office, and whether they offer wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
The traintaxi database is updated every two weeks. According to the website, traintaxi.co.uk was established as part of the Department for Transport "Transport Direct" vision, and was supported for its initial pilot year under a Rail Passenger Partnership Scheme funded jointly by the Strategic Rail Authority and the National Express Group. It is now supported by the passenger rail industry and other commercial licensees.
What a difference a bit of joined-up thinking makes!
