Three of greentraveller's accommodations have made it through to finals of the South West Tourism Excellence Awards.

The three have been chosen to be in a shortlist of only six finalists that were selected from more than three hundred entries.

Chris Loughlin, Chief Executive of South West Water, said:
“Over the last 20 years, our tourism industry has transformed itself making the South West Britain’s number one holiday region.  I am sure those shortlisted this year will again prove to be the cream of an always excellent crop. It’s particularly pleasing that so many are also making their businesses more green and waterwise this year. Good luck to them all."

The three finalists that are listed on greentraveller are:

The Scarlet, Cornwall

The Scarlet (as pictured above) was designed with sustainability in mind such as how air tight it is, as they believe this is a fundamental way of achieving energy efficiency. The roof is planted with Sea Thrift, a plant that also occurs along North Cornwall’s cliff tops to encourage it to be used as a habitat and blend in with the surroundings. They are definitely leading by example.

Wheatland Farm, Devon

Wheatland Farm’s eco lodges impressed the judges as it uses 75% less energy per occupied night than the average UK home through insulation and solar panels. They also keep 79% of waste out of landfill and carry out conservation work. The host Maggie said, "We're delighted. We aim for comfort, rather than luxury, because we think it’s more sustainable and also because it means we can keep prices down, making our lovely farm and nature reserve accessible to more people.”

Mazzard Farm Holiday Cottages, Devon

Mazzard Farm shined as it mixes great eco credentials and luxury. Heat generated by Biomass Heating Boiler, wood for the wood burners from their own forest and offering to offset guest’s carbon emissions are just some of the ways they reduce their carbon footprint.
