August Newsletter: A word from the editor

Travelling as a foot passenger on a traditional ferry service is one of the greenest ways to travel between the UK, Ireland and the continent, yet it is often difficult to find information on how public transport links in with the vast network of ferry services at home and overseas.

Today we have launched our unique online ferry guide for foot passengers, which we hope shows how easy it can be to take the train or bus to a ferry port then hop across to Ireland or Continental Europe and continue the journey overland. We have published it in conjunction with the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA). Here’s what the head of the PSA, Bill Gibbons, has to say about it:

“We are delighted to be partnering with greentraveller on the launch of the ‘Plan your journey by Ferry’ section of their website. We hope the section inspires and encourages a new generation of travellers to discover the treasures right on our doorstep and further afield, and reminds those who have forgotten, just how accessible and easy ferry travel can be.”

We hope that our online guide to ferry services will be the first port of call for green travellers looking to plan and book their holidays overseas. Do take a look: greentraveller.co.uk/plan-your-journey.

Best wishes,

"Our coasteering instructor, Steve, always reminded us to 'take just one big positive step' before stepping off the edge of a precipice. This gentle optimism and low key approach to having fun in the outdoors, sums up Preseli Venture for me." Reviewed by Catherine Mack "It is a great base to explore the Bodrum peninsula, but the main point of the Antik Zeytin is not activities so much as inactivity. It is a genuine oasis of calm, high up on the hill above Golturkbuku and the sea." Reviewed by Simon Wilson "A genuine Finnish-style log cabin built of hulking great Douglas fir trunks from Wales. If it's authenticity you are after, Annie's Cabin is the real deal. George and Erica are engaging, well travelled hosts." Reviewed by Jeremy Smith
