The growth of the green traveller market

We thought we'd put together a short compilation of some of the quotes we've reported on recently regarding the growth of the green travel market:

"Whereas not so long ago the issue of 'going green' was one of exhortation and persuasion, now it is more a matter of shade, degree, and implementation…Brands and companies are finding that eco-consciousness has progressed from a fringe notion to a business mandate”, see: Green travel research reports growth in green consumers

"Over half of all holidaymakers are considering swapping air travel for train travel" reports Global Cool, see: Introducing the 'Traincation'

And finally on a more prosaic note... when visiting the BASE conference at Excel this March, Sue Jueno from the eco directory 'Book of Green' heard Isobel Dedring (environmental advisor to Boris Johnson) speaking and noted that she had found that "approx 20% of the UK general public will buy green products and services no matter what, approx 60% of the general public will go green if it is made easy for them, whilst approx 20% of the population just aren't interested".

Book of Green is soon to launch an iPhone App for green businesses. Katie Keegan, co-founder of Book of Green, said: "With the advent of new and social media, we realised there is an enormous opportunity to really engage with the growing market of the conscious consumers.

"Our iPhone app allows users to find, for example, their nearest green places to stay, organic shops, as well as 'online only' businesses. They can then share their findings with their friends by posting to facebook and tweeting, promoting green businesses."

Businesses can sign up to be listed on the iPhone app by filling in the directory's registration form.
