Belgium in Summer
A 5-day natural history exploration of the Belgian countryside in summer, focusing on the wetlands, the Ardennes, and a little of the history and culture of the medieval city of Bruges.
£765 per person including return Eurostar travel.
This natural history holiday focuses on the delights of the Belgian countryside in summer. Initially we focus on the flat landscapes bordering Holland where the Zwin Estuary has created an important maritime eco-system. From here we visit historic Bruges and then Blokkersdijk Nature Reserve, Kalmthoutse Heide and Den Diel Reserve where we may see up to half of the 48 species of dragonflies recorded here. Finally, in the uplands of the Ardennes, we’ll enjoy some of Belgium’s finest woodlands, home to a wealth of butterflies, the wonderful flora of the Hautes Fagnes, and such resident birds as Tengmalm’s and Eagle Owls, Black Woodpecker, Short-toed Treecreeper and Hawfinch.
