The contrast between coast and mountains is striking: Las Alpujarras is a quite beautiful area, where even larger modern hotels tend to be constructed sensitively, often using traditional materials and methods and incorporating typically Alpujarran textiles and decor. It’s rare indeed to find a hotel or guesthouse that doesn’t have a welcoming terrace – and that’s because they are almost without exception perched on hillsides or above gorges affording spectacular views of the peaks of the Sierra Nevada or the valleys running down their southern slopes.
