The Barrow river is a hidden gem. A natural waterway that was harnessed for small barge traffic over 200 years ago. It now offers an incredibly interesting day out of fun, wonder, excitement, thrills and natural beauty. You will not be disappointed.

Overview of Adventure Canoeing Day in Kildare
For your discovery adventure we will be meeting just outside the little village of Borris in Co. Carlow (Kilkenny 20mins). Borris as you will see from the map is situated along the Barrow valley between Goresbridge and Graignamanagh. Borris is a charming village, old and quaint. Some of the pubs haven't changed in a hundred years. The village is dominated by a very impressive entrance to Borris House, ancestral home of the infamous incredible Mr. Kavanagh. (more about that along the river)
Your group will meet up with qualified and experienced instructors at the river and after a brief introduction we will all get geared up for our adventure. In addition to all the canoes etc we will supply wet suits, buoyancy aids and helmet. Your group will need to bring a few personal items. This will consist of footwear that you don't mind getting wet, swim wear and towel, fleece top and a wind-proof/ shower proof top. Once we are all ready we will warm up and your group will be given a familiarization with the equipment and a safety chat. We will then start the adventure with a quick lesson in a calm sheltered area of the river. Here, participants will be instructed in how to safely maneuver the canoes, what to do and not to do and a bit of warm up fun.
After this introductory session the real adventure begins. We now head of on our River trip. Along the way we will encounter beautiful calm stretches of scenic river valley, as well weirs, waterfalls and rapids. Plenty of challenges for the adventurous river explorer. You will be shooting weirs and rapids and having splash battles. We will have plenty of fun and games along the way and lots of white water excitement. The river itself is very interesting. As we paddle along we can notice all the man-made engineering wonders completed over 220 years ago, which were necessary to turn this section in a navigation as a trade route. For an additional buzz we can also swim the rapids if you think your friends would be up for it. This is a truly enchanting section of the valley. As we reach the end of our river travels we head north again but this time we negotiate along the canal, back to where we started. All told you could need to set aside approx 3.5 hrs for all of this activity.
I can assure that this is a very well worth while adventure and one that you will have no hesitation in recommending to friends in the future.
