Why is this a greener holiday?
To truly minimise the environmental impact, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport: the nearest train station is Castelo Branco. From there, buses do run from Castelo Branco but are slow and infrequent. The simplest way to reach us is by coach from Lisbon, Coimbra or Porto to the local town of Oleiros where the owners can pick guests up from there. Lisbon is easily reachable from the UK by overnight train via Paris and Madrid. Onsite the owners have taken a number of green measures to reduce the environmental impact of their tourism business and contribute positively to their surroundings.

Uses thermodynamic water heating in all 3 houses & wood burning stoves for central heating & cooking in winter
Roofs are well insulated from the heat in summer & stone walls have been rendered in lime, clay & straw
Recycling is collected by the council from the local village & hosts sort by coloured bins in all houses
Water comes from their very own bore hole & water mine. Recycles all house water to irrigate various parts of the gardens & orchards
All food is sourced locally. From spring to autumn food is from veggies grown on the kitchen garden terraces. Additional food is supplemented from local grocers, bakers & farmers
Trying to have positive impact on land by planting new orchards & woodlands, pruning the gorses & lavenders on the existing forest floor & recycling all possible compostable waste back into the soil

Directions from station:
Buses do run from Castelo Branco but are slow and infrequent. Simplest way to reach us is by coach from Lisbon, Coimbra or Porto to the local town of Oleiros where we will pick you by car. 3 coaches run every day from Sete Rios bus station in Lisbon and take 3.5 hours to Oleiros. The 6pm coach is the most commonly taken and we pick up guests at 9.30pm on their arrival.
