Why is this a greener holiday?
To truly minimise the environmental impact, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport: the nearest train station is Abergavenny, which is a 20 minute walk from the property (1 mile) or 5 minutes by taxi. To reach the hostel by foot, walk out of the station and along the station road until the main Monmouth Road, then turn right and continue to follow the main road, past the bus station on the right, and into the pedestrian area of town. Carry on through the shops until you pass Tesco Metro, and then cross the road into Pen-y-Pound Road. There lies Mulberry House on the corner of Pen-y-Pound Road and Park Crescent.
Onsite the owners have taken a number of green measures to reduce the impact of their tourism business on the environment. As a result they have earned Silver from the GTBS. The hosts strive to reduce energy consumption each year by using low energy lighting, better insulation, and promoting other energy saving measures. Water use reduced by having cistern blocks, and quick stop taps in both sinks and showers. The owners recycle and reuse waste as possible much as possible. The owners make jams and bake using the apples, pears, and mulberries grown in the grounds. They also encourage birds by feeding them and providing nest boxes.
