How does Terre et Toi minimise its impact on the environment and contribute to a sense of place?
To minimise its draw on energy, the rooms are very well insulated with hemp wool for the roof, cork under the floor and walls insulated with straw, earth, lime and hemp plaster. Water is heated with airothermy pump and all appliances are A-rated. To reduce the amount of landfill waste, they recycle as much as possible, all food is composted and refillable dispensers for toiletries are used. They have compost toilets, so there is only have grey water on the property, which is filtered through a reed bed system before running into the lake. All soaps and cleaning products are environmentally friendly.
The food is organic and vegetarian, with much provided by the organic garden, or locally bought. Homemade organic bread is served for breakfast and homemade gluten free and yeast free bread can be served on request. To minimise their impact on the Dordogne’s stunning natural environment and biodiversity, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport.
