Why we've chosen Spitakia Houses

The literal translation of Spitakia is 'little houses', and these charming, beautifully restored cottages dotted about in Avgonima, one of Chios' laid-back medieval villages, are cosy homes from home. Each stone house is decorated with traditional furniture, and some boast shady terraces for summer and cosy wood stoves for winter. Avuncular owner George Missetzis is a font of knowledge on the area and offers guided botanical walks in the nearby forests (see Activities).

Top eco features at Spitakia Hotel

  • The owners organise orchid and botanic and dragonfly nature excursions around Avgonima

  • The owners organise walking tours on the island, from 1-20 people

  • The cottages have been restored using traditional methods and reclaimed materials
