How does Shalom Cottage minimise its impact on the environment and contribute to a sense of place?
To minimise its draw on energy, Shalom Cottage is well insulated up to the latest requirements and all appliances are at least A rated. All electricity usage is monitored and recorded. Separate recycling bins are provided for plastics, paper/cardboard, glass, batteries/bulbs and the amount of waste is recorded and monitored. Eco friendly cleaning products are used. A water butt is provided for rainwater harvesting to use in the garden. The owners provide information to guests regarding cycle hire, local walks and public transport links. Through membership of the GTBS, the owners are committed to providing a good, high quality service whilst minimising the impact of our business activities on the Isle of Harris and its biodiversity.
