Why we've chosen Sandford Country Cottages, Fife, Scotland:

Set in Scotland in the glorious Fife countryside, just 10 miles from St Andrews and 5 miles from Dundee, Sandford Country Cottages are 4 luxury, 5 star self-catering properties which are part of Sandford House, a 'B' Listed Arts and Crafts House designed by Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott around 1902. Evelyn and Ralph rescued it with the intention of restoring it to a family home with limited guest accommodation to assist with repairs over the years - but it's too large for two people and two cats!

Each property has its own entrance door and patio area or balcony with all properties sharing a large, grassy wooded area suitable for picnics, walking and relaxing. They all have an open plan kitchen, living and dining room with wood-burning stove and are furnished to a high level of comfort with a mixture of contemporary and antique furniture.

Every bedroom has en-suite facilities, with either a bath/shower or a dedicated shower. All kitchens have a dishwasher, fridge, washing machine, electric oven and hob, microwave and coffee machine and each living area has comfy sofas, TV, DVD and iPod dock or Bluetooth speaker. Free WiFi is available.

Eco credentials:

How do you reduce your draw on energy:
All our appliances are new and A rated or better. The restored building has been completely insulated as part of the renovation project. We can't have any solar panels due to being a listed building but we enourage guests to turn off radiators when not in use and have overall control of the hot water and heating system so can ensure it is not turned up too high.

How you minimise the amount of waste you send to landfill:
We provide recycyling bins for paper, card, cans, glass bottles and jars, and plastic

How you reduce your consumption of water:
Our water supply is metered and we try to encourage guests not to use more than is necessary. We have a septic tank so we use cleaning materials that contain no bleach.

How much of the food your serve is sourced locally (where possible):
We do not serve food but all the items in our welcome basket are sourced locally.

Do you actively encourage guests to arrive on foot, by bike and by public transport?:
Our countryside location means that it is almost impossible to arrive on foot or by public transport although we do encourage guests to walk and cycle in the local area.

Additional information:
Each property has a wood burning stove which guests can use in the winter months to try to cut down on the use of central heating.
