How does Safraniere du M'Goun minimise its impact on the environment and contribute to a sense of place?
To reduce its draw on natural resources, hot water is from a solar thermal and energy-saving light-bulbs are used. They have recycling bins for guests and all food waste is composted. There is no communal garbage collection at all, so the owners sort waste and bring back to France, as much as possible, glass, batteries and other waste to be recycled. They use eco friendly cleaning products. They monitor garden watering using drip irrigation.
In the summertime, the organic greenhouse and adjoining field provide most of the vegetables (potatoes, onions, beetroots, carrots, salad, green beans, pumpkin, courgettes and aubergines), They have cherries in June , plums all summer and peaches, pears and apples in September and October . They have a small saffron harvest, guests are welcome to harvest with the owners in October. The olive oil is their own (Rachid's father is an olive producer) as well as the honey (Rachid's brother is a beekeeper). Guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport. The owners are involved in local associations to improve the quality of the water of the main stream of the valley helping women to wash linen other than directly in the wadi.
