How does Lombard Farm's Red and Blue Houses and Yurt minimise their impact on the environment and contribute to a sense of place?
To minimise its draw on natural resources, Lombard Farm‘s electricity is from a green tariff, so 100% renewable resources and low energy light bulbs are used wherever possible, they also have a small solar photovoltaic panel for the lighting in the yurt. The house uses only solar thermal and wood burners for heating and showers are heated by solar thermal. All cleaning and washing products are eco-friendly and there are recycling facilities for most waste.
An annual tree-planting program offsets carbon dioxide that is produced by the use of existing oil-fired equipment and they have already planted over 1,500 trees. Guests are provided with information for locally sourced food providers including vegetables, meat and fish. To encourage guests to minimise the impact of their holiday on the natural environment and biodiversity of the area, including nearby Dartmoor National Park, visitors are offered a discount if they arrive by public transport, bike, or electric car.
