Why we've chosen Outdoor Alternative

Our purpose-built centre is quietly tucked away in Rhoscolyn, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the Anglesey coast. We are just five minutes walk to the sandy beach at Borthwen and a stones throw from the Anglesey coastal path. Used by families and friends, outdoor groups, schools and universities, we provide comfortable year-round group accommodation for 16 to 45 people in 2 adjacent purpose-built accommodation buildings that can be used together or independently, both have fully equipped kitchens, dining/common rooms and conservatories, both are centrally heated with ample hot water for showers and bedding is provided.

The accommodation can be used on a self catered or catered basis.

In addition we have a 4 bedded room with ensuite shower room accessed externally which can be booked with either building.

Groups that have stayed with us include, schools and universities, walking groups, running clubs, friends and families, yoga groups, kayak clubs, climbing clubs and business away days.

 Eco credentials:

How do you reduce your draw on energy:
The Centre is  Green Tourism Gold Award holder and TripAdvisor platinum environmental award recipient. We have solar p.v. panels that produce 60% of our electricity, solar thermal for heating hot water, water minimising strategies including a straw-bale urinal for campers. All our electrical appliances are A-rated or better and we purchase electricity from green suppliers. We encourage our visitors to help us with recycling and lowering their carbon-footprint during their stay.

How you minimise the amount of waste you send to landfill:
We have a recycling skip on site and provide recycling boxes and bags for visitors. The skip segregates waste into plastic, cans and glass. We have separate recycling facilities for paper and card. We don't provide toiletries to guests but use the Enjo eco-cleaning method for cleaning.

How you reduce your consumption of water:
Spray heads on all taps and aerators on shower heads. We use the Enjo cleaning system. All our electricity, gas and water are metered and monitored on a monthly basis.

How much of the food your serve is sourced locally (where possible):
All food is prepared on site and locally sourced where possible. We grow food on site to supplement what we buy. Visitors full dietary requirements are met including vegetarian and vegan diets.

Do you actively encourage guests to arrive on foot, by bike and by public transport?:
We promote public transport options and encourage visitors to car share where possible. We promote activities that can be done from the the door, rather than requiring a car. We have Cyclists and Walkers Welcome certification. We are members of Sustrans.

Additional information:
We are a corporate sponsor of the North Wales Wildlife Trust and offer joint environmental activities with them from our base that have included pond-dipping and rock-pooling sessions for visitors. We have also received training in the OPAL citizen science scheme.
