Why we've chosen Nethergill Farm:

Nethergill Farm is a large Victorian farmhouse nestling into the side of a Yorkshire hill, with wonderful views and skyscapes.

Self-catering at Nethergill eco-Farm is in one of the original stone barns built in 1871 divided in to two spacious haylofts Hay Mew and Byre both sleeping 4, all bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. Enjoy peace and tranquility in a wildlife haven in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Heating and hot water is provided by 'Bertha' our biomass boiler, sourcing timber from within the Yorkshire Dales.

Drink in the amazing views, relax and completely unwind, immerse yourself in the wildlife and the wonderful flowers of the haymeadows, all around the farm. Make use of the Field Centre with telescope, wildlife identification information, maps, leaflets on activities in the local area. Fly fish in the Beck, walk over the fells, sketch, bird watch from our bird hides (River hide and Fell hide) or explore the local area with the help of our local knowledge. Learn more about the environment and meet the animals on our farm trail, make use of our bird hide down by the river or up on the fell. Perfect for challenging cycling!

All guests staying in the self-catering accommodation are welcome to use the bird hides during their stay free of charge. (Visitors to Nethergill for the day are welcome to use the hides for £10 per person, together with self -guided farm trail and use of the Field Centre.) DIY Tea, coffee and flapjack available in the Field Centre - payment on an honesty system

Both bird hides were made by Green Future Buildings, a not for profit social enterprise company, helping disadvantaged young people.

River hide:
The larger of two hides overlooking Oughtershaw Beck and a scrape. Made out of recycled plastic bags with a newly installed grass roof made with turf taken from the nearby scrape. A free standing telescope is available for use in this hide. Capacity 8 adults.

Victoria Wood Hide:
Half way up Mireling gill side in a copse called Victoria Wood, overlooking the source of the Wharfe and the Ribble with panoramic views over the fells. The hide is made out of recycled plastic bags. Capacity 4 adults or a family of 5.

Portable Canvas Hides
Available for hire by the day.

Wildlife Cameras
Wildlife cameras have now been installed around the farm - down by the river to hopefully see our elusive otter. Behind the barn onto one of our ancient hay meadows to see the Black Grouse who favour this meadow as well as a few nest box cameras in the woods and around the yard.

How do you reduce your draw on energy:
Bio mass boiler installed using timber sourced from the forest on our boundary.  The forest is on a 30 year cycle of felling and replanting. All hot water and heating for farmhouse, self catering and farm are provided by the biomass.  Solar panel installed Spring 2015.

Nethergill ready meals are available to guests - ready meals made from our own rare breed meat - mutton and beef.  All animals are grass fed on our ancient hay meadows.

How you minimise the amount of waste you send to landfill:
Recycling bins available to guests and small compost bin which is emptied into large house compost. All waste is seperated. Bulk dispensers for soaps and shower gels, no miniatures used.  All items such as cereals, coffee etc are supplied in glass jars which are refilled.

How you reduce your consumption of water:
All cleaning products used are eco friendly.  Water is supplied by a bore hole

How much of the food your serve is sourced locally (where possible):
All products where possible are sourced locally.  In addition to our Fodder boxes (as described above) all shopping is purchased from our local market town - Hawes. We serve our own farm meat, our own free range eggs, locally sourced trout, vegetable area for guests.

Do you actively encourage guests to arrive on foot, by bike and by public transport?:
No public transport supplies our property but we provide walks from the door so we actively encourage guests to walk on the farm and around and walk to the local pub etc.

Additional information:
We provide educational days within our new purpose built field centre where we demonstrate green practice
