All electricity is from 100% renewable sources and hot water and under-floor heating is generated via the most technically advanced, A+ energy rated eco-boiler. All appliances are at least A-rated. Recycling and composting are both actively encouraged at Mungo’s Den andmade easy in a positive, fun way. All food waste is composted. The wood burning stoves use naturally harvested dead-fall wood from our own cottage land and surrounding forests on Skye.
The water supply at Mungo’s Den is strictly metered, water savers have been installed in the toilet cisterns and there are flow restrictors in all taps and shower heads. All cleaning and laundry products are eco friendly. Local handmade organic mini soaps are provided for guests, which have minimal recycled paper packaging. Fresh food sourced locally from responsible producers of Skye’s natural harvests from sea and shore is served as much as possible. Upon arrival the organic hamper on arrival all food products which are either local, handmade, organic and/or fair trade. Guests are actively encouraged to arrive by public transport, and the owners are happy to collect them at nearby train and bus stations. The guiding principles of rescue, restore and revive are the philosophy behind Mungo’s Den, an old telephone exchange and post office. Local craftsmen brought their expertise to the restoration and everything comes from a variety of sources – antique fairs, salvage yards, markets, auctions & lucky finds.
