A bit more about Feather Down Farm's Mount Pleasant Farm
“The farm was delightful and our kids had the time of their little lives – what freedom they felt that they certainly don’t get at home,” wrote one family after their stay with us. And we do think what we have here is something special. Our tents are dotted around an exquisite piece of English countryside, with a pond nearby containing newts, frogs and tadpoles.
The farm’s 300 acres of beautiful organic grassland in the heart of Dorset’s Blackmore Vale are stacked full of animals to enjoy; Hereford cross cattle; our flock of a thousand sheep; point-to-point horses; Shetland pony Burger and little Welsh mountain pony Alice; traditional breed pigs; and a menagerie of goats, dogs, cats and cuddly lop-eared bunnies are all just waiting for you to visit. We are particularly excited at the prospect of our sow Cynthia welcoming piglets in April. The more adventurous can live or re-live memories of youth in our ancient woodlands and on our nature trail close by. Back in the tranquil setting of your tents, or sat by the campfire, you can compare your day to those of Enid Blyton’s ‘Famous Five’ tales of derring-do – we don’t reckon there’ll be much in it.

Why is this a greener holiday?
To truly minimise the environmental impact, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport: the nearest train station is Sherbone, and from there it’s just a short taxi ride to the farm, see: www.traintaxi.co.uk.
Onsite the accommodation is very low impact, as the tents are effectively off-grid. There is no electricity and lighting is by candle. Heating and cooking is done on a wood-burning stove. The hot tubs are also wood burning. Much of the produce in the honesty shops is local sourced, either from the farm or other nearby suppliers.
There is a wide range of low impact activities on-site for families to enjoy, discover nature and avoid use of additional transport for the duration of their holiday, including a lovely walk up Bulbarrow Hill, the second highest point in Dorset, an impressive 274 metres above sea level.
