A roomy four person ramshackle cottage on wheels. On the farm, you'll be able to pitch in with the animal feeding and explore the diverse range of habitats that Sarah and Christopher have carefully nurtured on their land.
There are also courses in traditional rural skills and crafts - green woodworking, foraging for wild food, longbow archery, handspinning and feltmaking are just some of the activities regularly on offer. Kids can become Swallowtail Hill Junior farmers!
If that's not enough to keep you busy, there's a nearby beach, Rye Nature Reserve, several wineries, and Rye Watersports - a large coastal water lake where you can learn to kitesurf, windsurf and sail.
Why is this a greener holiday?
Firstly, to truly minimise the environmental impact, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport: Rye is the nearest train station and the owners are happy to collect guests, if arranged in advance. From London, the high speed train is from St Pancras (38 minutes), or normal speed from Charing Cross, Waterloo East or London Bridge to Ashford International (1 hour 15 minutes), then cross to Platform one for hourly cross-marsh train to Rye (20 minutes). Onsite, the shower is wood-fired and guests are given a quick tutorial upon arrival. The land is actively managed for biodiversity and has qualified for the Higher Level Environmental Stewardship Scheme, and is now a patchwork of flower meadows, traditionally managed woodland, ponds and reed beds, and hedge-lined green lanes to stroll along. This wildlife haven is a carbon neutral operation and the owners are constantly on the lookout for new ideas to reduce their carbon footprint even further.
