A bit more about Feather Down Farm's Lunsford Farm
We’re aiming for Lunsford to continue to be a firm favourite with guests for this year and many more to come, as it has since we joined the Feather Down fold two years ago. With stunning sea views from all four of our tents, it’s no surprise the farm has also been the number one ‘Coastal Glamping Site’ in Coast magazine – the beach is just 10 minutes’ walk, and to get there you’ll cross ancient meadows and marshland full of rare and endangered species.
Lunsford has been in the Dunlop family since 1888 and currently breeds Romney ewes and mix-bred suckler cows and their calves sired by Bertie, a pedigree Aberdeen Angus bull. Andrew takes great pride in everything he does here, and this shines through on his Farm Tour. In the unlikely event that you tire of the views, the farm makes an ideal base for a visit to the nearby cobbled streets of Rye, the seven miles of beach at Camber Sands, and the town of Winchelsea, with its variety of tours including that of the vaulted medieval wine cellars hidden beneath the streets. Or you could just hop on a bike to the Royal Oak in the village – a great spot for pub grub or a relaxing pint.

Greentraveller's Insight: The Lunsford farm Tents
Voted the 'farm of the year' in 2010, Lunsford is a firm favourite, and with good reason. The luxury tents have been situated on high ground so that guests can look out over the surrounding countryside and out towards the coast. It's also only a ten minute walk from the tents to the coast, with plenty of walking trails and activities within minutes of the site. When you add to that the meadows and marshland full of flora and fauna and endangered species, it is no wonder the farm has also been voted the best 'Coastal Glamping Site' in the UK.
Highlights:
- All tents offer sea views
- In-tent massage and reflexology
- Within walking distance of the coast
- Fishing lessons on request
Why is this a greener holiday?
To truly minimise the environmental impact, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport: the nearest train station is Three Oaks, and from there it’s just a short taxi ride to the farm, see: www.traintaxi.co.uk.
Onsite the accommodation is very low impact, as the tents are effectively off-grid. There is no electricity and lighting is by candle. Heating and cooking is done on a wood-burning stove. The hot tubs are also wood burning. Much of the produce in the honesty shops is local sourced, either from the farm or other nearby suppliers. To avoid use of additional transport for the duration of their holiday, there is a wide range of low impact activities on-site for families to enjoy, such as the adjacent Pannel Valley Nature Reserve for wildlife viewing.
