Staying at Lochhouses is the perfect blend of beach house life, farm holiday and countryside escape. A roomy living area, a wood-burning stove with an oven, Belfast sinks with hot and cold running water and real beds keep you in simple comfort. The front porch is your own decking patio, with wicker chairs to lounge in and a wood-burning brazier for cooler evenings. The farm itself is home to lop-eared rabbits, hens, sheep and ducks, and you're more than welcome to muck in. Depending on the season, you'll find a great range of vegetables including Robert & Michele's prize winning potatoes.

Things to do:

Outdoor & active
Lochhouse farm is located in an area abounding with footpaths, trails, beaches, dunes and bridleways. The vicinity can be explored on foot, by bikes hired from the farm or on horse or pony from the next-door neighbours' trekking centre. Nearby is the family friendly East Links Family Park which includes a Thomas the Tank Engine railway. Bass Rock is an extinct volcano home to a rock gannet colony, with boat trips available. East Lothian’s premier fishery is just down the road.

History & culture
The perfect base for an unforgettable Fringe Festival and Hogmanay with Edinburgh easily accessible. Rosslyn chapel, made famous by The Da Vince Code is also close, plus many more sites of interest.

This is a place lovingly created by Michele Rennie and selected by Canopy & Stars

Why is this a greener holiday?

Firstly, to truly minimise the environmental impact, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport, either from Dunbar Station (on the main East coast line and a 10 minute ride by taxi) or from train Edinburgh Waverly Station (Scotrail service) on the North Berwick line (also a 10 minute taxi ride from the station). Additionally, a wide range of local food is available for guests: at the local shop, a converted fishing boat at the corner of the camp, there is often pheasant, duck or venison from the woods or crab and lobster from the sea just in front of the tents, as well as locally grown potatoes, turnips and leeks. In autumn, there is opportunity to pick blackberries and wild raspberries to make puddings or jams.
