Why is this a greener holiday?
First, to truly minimise the environmental impact, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport: the nearest train station is Abergavenny, which is approximately a 30 minute taxi ride. Onsite the owners have implemented a number of green initiatives including reusing a disused agricultural building for tourism purposes and respecting the original architecture, rather than constructing a new one. There has been extensive use of local oak in renovation. The building is fully insulated and the lime plasters and natural paints allow for breathable walls. An efficient, modern boiler has been installed. There is an on-site collection of recyclables. The wood stove burns a sustainable source. The water comes from a clean mountain spring. The farmland is managed under an environmentally-friendly Countryside Management scheme.
