Why we've chosen Lion Hotel:

Janet and Ray Thomas have been proprietors of The Lion Hotel for 20 years, but the pub has been in the village of Llanbister, near Llandrindod Wells, for over a century. Some of the pub’s traditional Victorian features and décor has been retained, giving a distinct period feel. Guests staying at The Lion Hotel feel as though they have stepped back into the late 19th century whilst enjoying all the comforts of modern living.

Watch our video of The Lion Hotel:

The three rooms are warm and cosy with fantastic views over the stunning Welsh countryside and the nearby River Ithon:  Elystan is decorated in Victorian Reds and is mainly used as a double room but it is possible to fit in another bed for a child or to convert the room to a twin. There are beautiful views from this room looking out over the River Ithon and surrounding hillside. The room is named after Elystan Glodrydd, the welsh King of Radnorshire who was born in the year 927; Dorddu is decorated in calm greens and also looks out over the river Ithon and over the village and the Dorddu Brook. This twin room is able to have the beds joined together to form a Kingsize bed. Dorthddu was a descendant of Elystan Glodyrdd; Our last room is a single room named Maelienydd which was the Kingdom that Elystan ruled over and the views from this room look over to the open hills which are still named Maelienydd to this day. This is decorated with a light beige/orange colour scheme

All our rooms have en suite, TV with Free Sky, Tea/Coffee making facilities, hairdryer and toiletries. Free Wifi access is available.

We are a Dog Friendly Hotel based in Mid Wales surrounded by open Common Land with free to roam access. We are the only Licenced Bed & Breakfast and Restaurant in Llanbister.  We are also a biker friendly B&B and our situation in the centre of Mid Wales makes The Lion Hotel an ideal base for touring Wales.

Review by Florence Fortnam

"This is a welcoming, restful retreat. Janet and Ray have been at The Lion Hotel for nearly 20 years, and their passion for their pub and the area comes across in everything that they do. As Janet explains, "What I love about our area of Mid Wales is that it's unspolit; if you want peace and tranquility, this is the place to come!""
