A relaxed and friendly hotel on the Devon Cornwall border, we offer comfortable accommodation, good food and drink, roaring fires and a warm welcome.Lifton Hall is a Grade II listed building dating from the 16th century, combining period charm with modern refurbishments, including WiFi and digital TV. We have 10 large and comfortable rooms - each individually decorated. Food and drink is an important part of the Lifton Hall experience.

We try to use local producers and suppliers where possible and do most of the cooking ourselves. Our bar serves a selection of local beers and ales, good wines, soft drinks and Fairtrade coffee and teas.

We are close to the market towns of Tavistock and Launceston, plus loads of glorious countryside, terrific beaches and tourist attractions - making us an ideal place for touring around the South West. There are some fabulous walks around Lifton and the surrounding area. We are experts in looking after large groups, creating a relaxed house-party atmosphere. Children and pets are very welcome, as are walkers and cyclists - and we can arrange collection and onward delivery of your luggage.

We're very conscious of the impact we make on the environment and are always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint.

We have a Silver Green Tourism Business Scheme Award and were presented with a Carbon Footprint Award as the Top Performing Green Hotel in UK & Ireland for 2010/11.

How does Lifton Hall Hotel minimise its impact on the environment and contribute to a sense of place?

To reduce its draw on energy, the lofts are fully insulated and a SavaStat device is used on the boiler, all radiators have individual thermostats and are turned down in unused rooms. Low energy light bulbs are used throughout the hotel.  As much as possible is recycled including paper, cardboard, glass, cans, food waste and light bulbs. To reduce waste, larger soap/shampoo dispensers are used. To minimise water consumption, all cisterns are either dual flush or have volume reducers. There are have fitted flow restrictors to many of the taps and showerheads. The overflow from the ice machine is collected and used to water the plants. There are numerous water butts collecting rain water for use in the garden.

The menu is seasonal and the majority of food is locally sourced, which comes from the local butcher, fruit and vegetable supplier and fishmongers. They also try to use local ales, lagers and soft drinks in the bar. Some produce is grown in the garden. To lessen their impact on the natural environment and its biodiversity, including nearby Dartmoor National Park, guests are encouraged to arrive car-free either by public transport, cycle or on foot.
