Why we've chosen Lawson Park Farm:

The train journey from London Euston to Ulverston can take as little as three hours and twenty minutes with one change at Lancaster. This gives you plenty of opportunity to sit back and admire the views, particularly as you make your way past the Yorkshire Dales National Park and into the famous Lake District landscape. From Ulverston, jump aboard the ferry across Coniston Water to Brantwood House where a beautiful 20 minute walk through gardens and woodland takes you to Lawson Park.

Lawson Park Farm is the HQ of Grizedale Arts (an organisation that runs a programme of artists' projects that aim to make art useful in society), from where it runs a renowned artists' residency programme. The historic hill farm was once owned by John Ruskin and has recently received a RIBA award for its interesting but sensitive renovation. The interior is tastefully furnished with a combination of 20th century British design and contemporary British art, especially commissioned for the building. The generous living spaces and four en-suite bedrooms (sleeps up to 8 people) combine the traditional slate architecture of Lakeland with 21st Century comfort. The house is fully wheelchair accessible, offering stunning mountain and meadow views. The 15 acre site has decorative gardens, a wild flower meadow, woodland, fruit and vegetable plots, ducks, pigs and chickens.

Top green features of Lawson Park Farm:

  • A ground source heat pump provides underfloor heating and hot water

  • The garden boasts meadow walks and an organic kitchen garden

  • The home of Grizedale Arts, which aims at making art useful in the local society

  • The house exhibits elements of traditional slate architecture

  • An exceptional location for walking, mountain biking and wildlife watching
