Why we've chosen Lasswade Country House & Restaurant, Powys, Wales

One of the first Eco-Hotels in Wales and Pro-Organic. Locally sourced produce and traceability within a 60 mile radius. Roger is a professional Chef/Joint Proprietor, originally working in London's top Hotels.

He and his Wife Emma, came to live in Wales over a decade ago because of the abundance of sustainable produce and the clean air. Roger's passion for food is reflected in the delicious dishes on offer and care taken in sourcing fantastic sustainable produce.

Lasswade has a comfortable homely feel yet provides the four star service and hospitality expected of a Restaurant with Rooms. The views all round are breathtaking with rolling hills, forests, streams and waterfalls. The tranquillity is hard to imagine.

There's plenty to do in the local area: walking, mountain biking, fishing, white water rafting, horse riding and fantastic historic sites to explore. Or you could simply relax and enjoy some quality time with the family.

Lasswade is one of three hotels hosting Road Trips for Welsh Road Trips.

Winner of the U.K. Green Small Accommodation Provider 2011

Why is this a greener holiday?

To truly minimise the environmental impact, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport: the nearest train station is Llanwrtyd Wells and the accommodation is a 2 minute walk from the train station, which is on the Heart of Wales line (Arriva Trains) from Swansea to Shrewsbury. The owners offer a discount to guests arriving by public transport.

Onsite the owners have taken a number of green measures to reduce the environmental impact of their tourism business, and have earned Gold from the GTBS. The owners attempt to reduce their carbon footprint wherever possible and set targets to cut electricity and gas use. Much of the produce for meals is organic and locally sourced and they were UK champions in 2010 for Sustainable Food. The environmental impact is always considered when choosing suppliers. The owners reuse and recycle as much as possible.
