How does Huntingtower Lodge minimise its impact on the environment and contribute to a sense of place?
This boutique B&B was awarded Gold by the GTBS, and has recently installed a boiler with zoned heating and thermostatic radiator-valves, as well as using timers for the heating and water. The building has also been newly renovated with double glazing and state of the art insulation throughout. Most appliances are rated A or higher. The bathrooms have dual flush toilets, and the cleaning products are environmentally friendly. The comprehensive recycling facilities accept paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, tetrapak, aluminium/tin cans, clothes, furniture, batteries and garden waste, plus there are three composting bins. Guest toiletries are bulk bought from a local organic maker 'The Highland Soap Company', and dispensers are used instead of individual packaging.
The owners make their own breads, biscuits and preserves, and many of the ingredients on the breaffast menu have been locally sourced. Guests are offered complimentary listf into the town centre, plus there's garaging for bikes and drying facilities for all guests involved in outdoor activities. Sat on the shores of Loch Linnhe, Huntingtower is only a short distance from Fort William, considered the 'Outdoor Capital of the UK' and a great destination for hill walking and climbing due to its close proximity to the Munro Mountains and Ben Nevis.
