How do you reduce your draw on energy:
All our cottages have double glazing, draft proofing and are insulated. We try to minimise the consumption of our indoor heated pool by using 9.8kW of PV and capture the heat during the dehumification process and return that to the pool. The pool itself and the building it is in are well insulated and we cover the pool at night. We use all low energy lighting and increasingly use led lights. Our appliances are A rated where possible. We use combi boliers that are all serviced annually. All radiators have thermostats and we monitor our energy usage.

How you minimise the amount of waste you send to landfill:
We have recycling for guests (separating glass, paper, plastic (bottles only in Cornwall), card and aluminium). We have Green Johanna composters for food waste and each cottage has a food waste container. All lawn mowings are either, and mainly, fed to our livestock or composted on site. We provide eco-friendly washing-up liquid, kitchen cleaner and bathroom cleaner (all in refillable containers). We have various notices explaining the benefits of recycling. We have a paperless online booking system.

How you reduce your consumption of water:
We have flow restrictors on showers and basin taps. Cisterns are small and/or use water savers and we are moving to dual flush as we refurbish cottages. We have 5 water butts. We use environmentally cleaning products and washing powder (from Green My Business). We provide guests with environmentally friendly cleaning products and washing balls. Our gardens do not require watering as we have moved to drought resistant planting. We regularly monitor our water consumption.

How much of the food your serve is sourced locally (where possible):
We provide a cream tea on arrival made with local cream, scones and jam. Tea, coffee and sugar is fairtrade. Every booking confirmation, all done by email, has a link to Food4myhodiday a local Cornish company that delivers to the cottages focussing on supplying local products.

Do you actively encourage guests to arrive on foot, by bike and by public transport?:
The lack of close public transport is an issue. Our website provides links to public transport options but realistically most people arrive by car. However, we do provide many suggestions of relatively car free days when guests are out and about both on our website, in information files and other centrally located information files. We have a good facilities on site (swimming pool, games room, outdoor play areas) so many guests have a "day in" and just relax. We promote cycling routes and walking.

Additional information:
We continually try to improve what we do.
