How does Haus Sterr-Peter-Martin minimise its impact on the environment and contribute to a sense of place?
Haus Sterr-Peter-Martin is supplied with energy by several sources, including solar panels for heating water and a wood pellet heating system. The toilets are fitted with water saving flushes and the taps have flow restrictors. There's also a large capacity washing machine that considerably reduces the number of washes. The owners also collect rainwater for watering the gardens and window boxes. All water consumption is metered and monitored. Guests are requested to separate waste in glass and plastic bottles, soft plastic, metals, paper and board and kitchen waste, all of which is taken out for recycling.
The welcome pack guests receive is full of locally-sourced produce and not only do the owners advise arriving by train, they also provide plenty of information on how to do so and even arrange tickets if necessary. Situated within the Bavarian Forest National Park, the accommodation has been accepted as a 'National Park Partner', and actively helps to conserve the largest protected forest area in central Europe.
