How does Grindon Farm minimise its impact on the environment and contribute to a sense of place?
Grindon Farm has made a considerable effort to improving the sustainability of its B&B and self-catering accommodation, including introducting A-rated appliances and ensuring both buildings are extremely well insulated. Also, the underfloor heating is sourced from an air source heat pump. In order to save water, the taps have been fitted with flow restrictors and the cisterns have water savers, plus the toilets are fitted with dual flushes. Guests are asked to place towels on the floor only when they need replacing. There are recycling facilities on site, and local handmade soaps are made available to guests.
As part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, the owners have recently planted a 10 hectare wood, which contains species of tree that favour the red squirrel population. Surrounded by the Northumberland National Park on 600 acres of farmland, there are countless walking and cycling opportunities in Hadrian's Wall country.
