Why we've chosen Dolaumaen Isaf, Pembrokeshire, Wales

One of the best places to stay in west Wales, Dolaumaen Isaf combines peaceful escapism with proximity to all the joys of Pembrokeshire – from beaches to mountains to wildlife havens.

The cottage itself, a converted former cow byre, is gorgeous and thoughtfully furnished by the artist owners. The sitting-area, with its wonderful wood burner, is both spacious and snug, the kitchen a pleasure to use, and the dining area opens out via French doors onto the terrace, and has a view towards the mysterious Preseli hills.

The master bedroom, with lovely paintings, has a four-poster bed with hangings made from the famous Welsh tapestry weave. Upstairs, another double bedroom has a useful child’s bedroom next-door. To stay in Dolaumaen Isaf is to enjoy eco-awareness without compromising on comfort and civilised taste.

The owners can pick up visitors from Narberth, a 15 minute drive away, if they are around or a taxi can easily be taken.

Pembrokeshire’s attractions are well-known, and Dolaumaen provides a great base for explorations of all kinds.

Why is this a greener holiday?

To truly minimise the environmental impact, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport: the nearest train station is Clundewen. The owners are happy to collect guests from the station when available. Onsite the owners have taken a number of green measures to reduce the environmental impact of their tourism business. The building is well insulated, local timber was used in the restoration and the water supply is sourced from their private borehole.
