Why we've chosen The Channel Guest House

The house is a very pretty 214 year old Georgian Town House perfectly located on Weymouth's famous seafront, directly opposite the award winning central beach. Think of Weymouth bay as a horseshoe shape and we are right in the middle of the shoe giving us beautiful views right across the bay. Our guest lounge and 5 of our rooms look out over this idyllic view.

We offer warm, clean, comfortable surroundings (regularly described by previous guests as 'home from home') in order to ensure your stay is a memorable one. At the same time keeping a close eye on how we operate the house and business to minimise our impact on the environment, following a recent Green Tourism inspection we were awarded a coveted GOLD award for these efforts.

The rooms are all tastefully decorated and are all ensuite, have professionally fitted furniture, flat panel TV, tea/coffee making facilities, free Wi-Fi access, and some have 2 seat settees for added comfort.

Breakfast is also something to look forward to with many of the ingredients sourced from local farms and producers, and we offer several choices from full english, several egg dishes, a fish dish and vegetarian, all to help give you a good start to your day.

We have lots of information on walks in the area, places to visit, we can help with cycle hire and cycle paths, and we're situated very close to the railway station, bus/coach stops and the Channel islands Ferry terminal. If we don't already have details and/or maps for your trips we are always willing to help get information from the web to get you off on the right track.

If exploring the Jurassic Coast, it's geology, fossils or just sheer beauty are what you are looking for, we are accredited under the Jurassic Coast QualityBusiness Scheme and can help you find the places to visit to achieve your goals.

Leave your car at home and travel to us on public transport and we'll give you 5% off the cost of your accommodation by way of a 'Green' discount.

How does the Channel Guest House minimise its impact on the environment and contribute to a sense of place?

To reduce its draw on energy, a state of the art heating and hot water system was recently installed, including the latest eco friendly condensing boilers, a lossless header and smart cylinder in cylinder hot water storage. All appliances are A rated or better. To reduce landfill waste, all waste is separated and they actively recycle cardboard, paper, plastic, tin, glass and all kitchen (compostable) waste is sent to a community composting project. The owners save used cooking oil which is collected by a local company and converted to bio-diesel and then used with their own machinery. They regularly send old clothing, furniture and electrical goods to local charity shops and re-use projects. To reduce water consumption, they have deployed water savers in toilet cisterns. They have a water meter and actively monitor water usage and regularly monitor for leaks and drips and rectify where necessary. Eco friendly cleaning products and toiletry products in the guest rooms are used.

Approximately 70% of the food used with the business is sourced from local farms and producers, including free range eggs and sausages from Wyke Oliver farm 2 miles away, milk, butter, yogurt and cheese from Craig's farm Dairy 3.5 miles away and jams and marmalades from Boasty's just 1 mile away from the house.  They have a “Green” discount scheme in place to incentivise guests into arriving by foot/bike or by using public transport instead of traveling by car, by offering a 5% discount on total accommodation cost. They provide guests with information about public transport in the area, walks throughout Dorset, and supply information regarding cycle paths. They have received Gold from the GTBS, are accredited by the "Direct From Dorset" scheme operated by Dorset County Council trading Standards department for locally sourced food and under the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Teams' Jurassic Coast Quality Business Scheme for running the business in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. They actively operate a "Responsible Guest Charter" where guests are provided with a "How green are you ?" sheet on arrival into the room.
