Why we've chosen Converted Barn:

Possibly the UK's 'greenest' holiday cottage, Converted Barn is an ideal marriage of sustainable thinking and cool interior design.  Tremendous views stretch from the sea in the west, to the mountains north and east. Surrounded by nothing but organic farmland and birdsong, Converted Barn will lift the mind and refresh the soul. Sustainability has been at the heart of every decision in the conversion and even the electric is produced on-site using solar power (a mile up your own track!) and is a luxuriously-converted "off grid" barn, set in glorious isolation 600 feet above the stunning Dyfi valley in mid Wales.

Why is this a greener holiday?

First, to truly minimise the environmental impact, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport: the nearest train station is Machnylleth and from there it’s only a 10 minute taxi ride to the property. Onsite the owners have implemented a number of green initiatives to reduce their impact on the environment and as a result the barn meets the Silver Standard of the Association of Environmentally Conscious Buildings. The conversion was designed for maximum solar gain. All lighting is provided by solar photovoltaic panels and low energy fittings, oil lamps and nightlights and the wood-burning stove uses with timber from the farm. Electricity is sourced from photovoltaic panels. Rain water is collected and the drinking water is natural spring water. All items are recycled where possible.
